Summary: He’s might just become the rebound she’s looking for.

Danny waited for the elevator to stop at the top floor. Sofia had obviously gone to the roof. Danny knew this because he couldn’t find her anywhere else.

"She’d better be on the roof," muttered Danny darkly to himself as the doors opened and he stepped out, heading for the stares that lead to the door that lead to the roof of CSI.

Opening the door to the roof and stepping out into the dimming light, Danny looked around, his eyes squinting slightly as he tried to see through the glare of the light. He spotted Sofia standing near the edge of the roof, staring down over the wall onto the streets below.

"You’re not going to jump on my watch, are you, Vegas?" Sofia turned to look at Danny, her fingertips resting on her lips, tears in her eyes and a confused expression on her face. Danny frowned and walked towards her, reaching out and touching her shoulder.

"Are you okay?" he asked her. She nodded, her head bobbing childishly, making Danny want to laugh at her. He nodded back at her. "Even though you’re not alright?" Sofa nodded again. Danny sighed, suppressing his annoyance and let his hand drop from her shoulder.

"What was with that back there?" he asked her. "I mean, what the hell were you and Flack talking about?" Sofia didn’t answer him, just kept staring at the ground, her fingers brushing against her lips. Danny continued. "Why’d you kiss me?"

Sofia looked up at him slowly, tears still framing her eyes. She look so incredibly confused and hurt, that Danny almost opened his mouth to take back what he’d said.

"I’m sorry," said Sofia thickly, a tear spilling down her cheek. "I’m so sorry, Danny. I don’t know why, Don-Flack, he just-I…I don’t know," Danny stared at Sofia, his mouth hanging open. Sure, he’d only known her about three days, but he hadn’t pictured her the type of girl to just break down.

"Sofia…," began Danny, trailing off as he lost his train of thought. Sofia covered her mouth with her hand and shook her head, clearing it.

"I am so sorry," said Sofia again, her voice muffled by her hand. She took a deep, shuddering breath and turned her face completely to look at Danny. She let her hand fall away from her face, her eyes blinking back tears. "That was the first kiss I’ve had since my husband died."

Danny’s mouth dropped and he stared at her. "But you said-."

"Will you shut up," snapped Sofia, feigning annoyance. "I-I owe you an apology."

"Because…," said Danny, trailing off so she would finish his sentence.

"I basically used you so Flack would stop asking me out," Danny’s eyebrow quirked.

"Flack asked you out."

"Multiple times," said Sofia. "He’s…persistent."

Danny reached up to Sofia’s face and brushed a few lingering tears off her cheeks. "What’s wrong with Flack?"

"He’s not my husband," said Sofia quietly.

"You just said he was dead."

"Do you know how hard it is to let go of someone you’ve love since you were a kid?" Danny nodded. "I’ve known my husband for about 15 years," Sofia fumbled with the collar of her shirt, pulling out a necklace. The triple strand chain dropped down from a knot tied in the necklace.

"What is that?" asked Danny, tilting his head to the side.

"It’s an Algerian Love Knot," said Sofia. "He gave it to me, it was is great-grandmothers."

"Wow," said Danny. "How’d he die?"

"He was a criminalist," said Sofia, letting her necklace fall back under her shirt. "He was, shot in the chest and bled out, right in front of me."

Danny shook his head, sighing. "Who was he?"

"His name’s Greg," said Sofia. "Greg Sanders."

Danny frowned. Sofia, watching his expression, nodded.

"You know him," said Sofia, more of a statement than a question. Danny nodded slowly.

"The name sounds familiar…," said Danny, trailing off.

"He used to work here, as a lab tech. We were going to move here together anyways, start something together," Danny nodded.

"When did he die?"

"’Bout two months ago."

"And you’re actually letting Flack hit on you?" asked Danny incredulously.

"I can’t really make him stop without a real explanation," said Sofia, wiping her eyes. "That’s why I kissed you."

"So he’d leave you alone?"

"Yeah. To be honest Danny," began Sofia, a smirk fluttering on her face.
"You’re not really my type."
