Summary: He might just become the rebound she’s looking for.
Don walked up behind Danny as he processed the body of a couple from Wisconsin, stopping just behind him and watching him process them. Danny looked up after sensing someone watching him, turning his head and raising his eyebrow at Don.
"Can I help you?" asked Danny, with a smirk, which Don didn’t return.
"I think I’ve royally fucked up," muttered Don, walking around Danny until he was standing in front of him. Danny’s eyebrows rose even higher (if that wore possible) and his smirk widened, making him look really odd to Don.
"What’d you do?" asked Danny. Don shook his head and squatted down next to the body.
"I had one night stand and it is not going to go over well."
"Yeah? She hot?"
"Shut up and listen, Messer," said Don, glancing over Danny’s shoulder before looking back at his friend. Don cleared his throat and ran his hand over his face. "I slept with Sofia."
"Ho!" said Danny loudly; causing a few patrol officers to look around at them, Don gave them a glance before Danny brought his attention back. "Haho man."
"Shut up, Danny," hissed Don, restraining himself from punching Danny in the face. He glanced around again and froze. "Danny, shut up."
"Man you are so-."
"Shut. Up," hissed Don menacingly. Danny turned his head, trying to find what Don was looking at and saw Sofia talking to a patrol officer.
"Oh, fuck," said Danny turning back around a wide grin on his face. "You are so screwed."
"Man, if you don’t-. Hi! Sofia…," Danny whipped his head around and stared up at Sofia who was smiling down at the two of them with a confused expression on her face.
"Hi…What are you all doing?" Danny shrugged, looking back at Don and grimacing.
"Nothing," said Don straightening up and stuffing his hands in his pockets. "I gotta go," he began staring at Sofia and pointing with his memo pad off to the side towards a group of kindergartners. Sofia nodded and Don turned, as he left Danny swore he heard Don muttered something that sounded like ‘Bury my head in the sand’.
Sofia took a step closer to Danny, leaning over his shoulder and looking over the bodies. Danny cringed at her closeness, knowing he’d never be able to keep it together knowing about her and Don.
"So," said Danny, nudging Sofia’s leg. "What’s up with you and Flack?"
Sofia frowned down at him, Danny’s head nodding slightly. Still not getting what he was hinting at Danny sighed and waved nonchalantly over at Don.
"Did you have sex with Don?" Sofia became slightly bug-eyed, her breath catching in her throat.
"How did you-," Danny sighed and held up a hand, dropping his head and rubbing his forehead with exasperation.
"He told me," said Danny.
"Why would he do that?"
"He thinks he fucked up anything he could possibly have had with you," Sofia closed her eyes and sighed deeply, dropping to her knees next to Danny slowly and staring at the body in front of her.
"He didn’t fuck anything up," she said quietly, brining her hand up to her chest and fiddling with her necklace.
"So he knows about you?" asked Danny, pointing to her neck.
"What? Uh, no. Why?"
"You’re necklace represents your dead husband and Flack basically… You know."
"He didn’t- it was- we- ugh, Danny," Sofia groaned, dropping her face into her hands in exasperation. "I wanted him just as badly as he wanted me, and I wasn’t thinking to take off the necklace."
"You’d take it off?" asked Danny sounding slightly horrified and surprised. Sofia pulled her head out of her hands and looked sideways at him.
"No," said Sofia, looking over her shoulder to see Don staring at them. He waved awkwardly and went back to interviewing someone. "I won’t take it off yet."
